How Does Chronic Lyme Disease Occur?

The incidence of chronic lyme disease seems to increase a little with each passing year. Part of the reason is that there are a number of ways that the disease is carried and can be brought into contact with humans. Here is some background on how chronic lyme disease is spread.

The root cause of chronic lyme disease is a form of bacteria that is known as spirochere. Typically, these are found within deer ticks. A deer tick can often resemble a dog tick, almost to the point that it takes an expert to tell the difference. As with all ticks, it is possible for the deer tick to dislodge and seek out a new host. One of the most common ways of coming into contact with chronic lyme disease is by being out in the open woods where deer are known to roam free.

However, staying out of the woods does not necessarily ensure that one will not end up with a case of chronic lyme disease. It is also possible for the ticks to attach themselves to another host and eventually find their way into your home. This can happen in a number of different ways. Your household pet may be the means of conveyance of the chronic lyme disease entering your abode. Visiting friends and relatives may be carrying the bacteria without even knowing it, infesting your home with the disease.

Essentially, there is not any way to completely isolate yourself from the potential for encountering chronic lyme disease. The only possible method would be to refrain from any contact with another living thing, human or animal. Even then, there is some small chance of infection by handling goods that were previously packaged by other human hands. Fortunately, the condition is highly treatable. At the first sign of any symptoms of chronic lyme disease, a visit to your physician is in order.
